Finishing 8th grade and starting high
school is a real milestone for any child. For myself it was all that and more. I
was leaving public school and starting fresh at a private school. One that I knew
only a few friends who were attending with me and a cousin I saw only every Christmas
it was safe to say I didn’t know what to expect. No one knew my family name, I didn’t
have a brother who attended before me to make a name for our family good or bad
it was a total fresh start. All my good friends were all taking off in
different directions whether it be public catholic or private school. One of my
biggest fears was who I was going to eat lunch with truly. Luckily I made the
freshman football team and for the first few weeks we all got along together
and helped each other out adjusting to this new environment they call high
school. I 100 percent understand what Emily White is describing in her short
essay about high school cafeterias. Luckily I found my friends through an
extracurricular activity but it was set up as certain groups sat at certain
tables and certain grades sat in different locations throughout the cafeteria. It’s
not just in Seattle or at my high school its everywhere.
